Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Rwanda Primate Safari

Day 1: Kigali City Tour and Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

On arrival at Kigali International Airport you will be warmly received by our representative, after briefing you about the safari and go for a Kigali City Tour visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site where you will get a deeper insight about the horrific Rwanda Genocide of 1997.

Then we transfer to Nyungwe Forest and then settle into your lodge and enjoy lunch, in the afternoon you will go for a canopy walk on a suspended walkway above the rainforests of Nyungwe, enjoy sights of olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys and several bird species and the forest canopy.

Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking and Tea Plantation Walk

After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking and the right way to behave while in the presence of the chimpanzees. In groups of 8 people, a ranger guide will lead you into the forest looking for chimpanzees.

Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest can be a little tough but very exciting when you meet the close cousins. Equipped with rain gears, enough drinking water and some snacks making the exercise smooth.

Upon meeting the chimpanzees you will have a complete hour with them observing their behavior, watch them jump from one tree to another and pick fruits. Later return to the lodge for lunch and in the evening, have a walk through Gisakuru Tea Plantations for pictures and beautiful views.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Wake up early for breakfast, check out of the lodge, and then start on the journey to Volcanoes National Park in the north-west of Rwanda.

The journey through is very scenic and very adventurous. On reaching the park, we have lunch after check in and then in the evening, go for a community walk or visit Ib’Iwacu Cultural village where you will be entertained by local dances and drama, interact with the locals and taste some of their local meals.

Day 4: Gorilla Trekking to Transfer back to Kigali

Start your day early with a delicious breakfast, pack some snacks and head to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking and the right to behave while in the presence of the gorillas.

In groups of 8 people and led by a ranger guide, head into the rainforests looking for mountain gorillas. The trek takes approximately 2 to 5 hours or more depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night. When you locate the gorillas you will spend one hour in their presence watching them play, feed and groom. You are free to take pictures as long as your flashlight is off.

Trek back to the park headquarters to meet your guide and return to your lodge for lunch. later check out and embark on a journey back to Kigali for your flight back home, bringing your safari to an end.
