DETAILED ITINERARY OF 7 DAYS MASAI MARA, LAKE NAIVASHA, HELLS GATE AND CULTURAL SAFARI

Day 1: Nairobi to Masai Mara

Pick up from your hotel or airport upon arrival and embark on a drive to Masai Mara national reserve, along the way you will have a stopover at the Great Rift Valley.

Arrive in the park in time for lunch, check in and have lunch. In the afternoon you will depart for a game viewing drive in the plains of Masai Mara national reserve.

Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

 Masai Mara national reserve is the most popular safari destination in Kenya located in the Great Rift Valley, the reserve is regarded as a jewel of Kenya’s wildlife viewing areas with most of the wildlife concentrated on the western escarpment of the reserve. When you visit reserve in the period of July – October, you will be able to see the annual wildebeest migration which involves over 1.5 million animals entering Maasai Mara from Serengeti national park in search for green pastures and water.

Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Masai Mara Reserve

You will spend the full day exploring Masai Mara in search for the Big Five, you will have picnic lunches in one of the picnic sites of the reserve as you enjoy the Mara Beauty along the banks of Mara River.

Optional: In the evening, Visit the local Masai village for a Masai cultural tour at USD 20. Learn about the Masai community and interact with the local Masai people. A balloon safari at USD 380 per person can be organised early morning on this day then proceed with the normal program. It is in the Mara that perhaps the most spectacular event of the natural world takes place: the great migration. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (in Tanzania) in search of water and pasture. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna – lions, cheetahs, jackals, hyenas and vultures.

Day 3: Depart Maasai Mara to Nakuru

You will enjoy the last early morning game drive in Mara Reserve followed by breakfast. Thereafter commence the drive to Lake Nakuru National Park arriving in time for lunch.

After lunch, proceed for an afternoon game drive in the park.

Dinner and Overnight at Lake Nakuru Lodge

Day 4: Lake Nakuru to Lake Naivasha/Hell’s Gate

You will have an early breakfast and depart by 7am straight to the park. Its a small park with magnificent, rare white rhinos which form part of the Big five animals. There is also a possibility to see the pink flamingos . The game drive lasts 3 hours, after which you depart on a 3-hour drive back to Naivasha to arrive in time for lunch at the lodge.

After lunch, you will go to hell’s gate for biking safari. If you are too tired you will be driven in the park with a car.

You will later go for an hour boat ride on Lake Naivasha for bird watching and hippo viewing.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha to Samburu National Reserve

Breakfast at the hotel and at 7 am, depart to Samburu National Reserve located in Northern Kenya. Have lunch on the way to Samburu in time for an evening game viewing.

Samburu is famous for its truly wild semi-arid landscape, and the large concentration of wild animals and bird-life. Together with the adjoining Shaba and Buffalo Springs national reserves, Samburu is popular for hosting the rare Northern-Kenya animal species (Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Gravy’s zebra, Beisa Oryx and Somali Ostrich) which are not found in the other popular parks and reserves in Kenya. It is also home to all the African big cats (lion, cheetah and leopard), alongside other big game including elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, hippos, impala, water-buck and many others. Samburu is also a renowned bird watching haven, with hundreds of bird species resident here. These include kingfisher, bee-eaters, tawny eagle, guinea-fowl, yellow throated spur-fowl, lilac-breasted roller, red-billed horn bill, secretary bird, Verreaux’s eagle, superb starling, yellow-billed hornbill and vultures. The unique culture of The Samburu tribe who live in the region is the icing to cake for the amazing Samburu National Reserve.

Dinner and overnight at Samburu Simba Lodge 

Day 6: Full Day in Samburu National Reserve

Early morning game drive in the reserve. Later, return to the camp for breakfast. Rest of the mid-morning at relaxation. After lunch, proceed for an afternoon game drive in the reserve.

Dinner and overnight at Samburu Simba Lodge 

Day 7: Samburu to Nairobi

Early morning game viewing in the reserve. Later, return to the lodge for breakfast and thereafter drive back to Nairobi with lunch on the way.
