Over 2 million wildebeests, zebras and antelopes traveling over 450 miles across the endless savannah plains to ensure their survival, unaware that there is danger presented by the stalking lions and cheetahs among other predators of the wildlife.

Witness huge crocodiles of the Mara River as they wait for the wildebeests and zebras which they see as prey to cross the Mara River to enter into Masai Mara National Reserve from Serengeti National Park.

The Wildebeest Migration River Crossing in August moves north, passing through the Lobo Area (north of Central Serengeti National Park) and the Wagakuria Area (remote northern Serengeti National Park along the Mara River) en-route to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya.

Detailed itinerary of 10 Days Serengeti Wildebeest Migration

Day 1 – Arrival – Arusha

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our guide will meet you and transfer to your hotel for an evening of rest.

Day 2 – Serengeti National Park (North)

After breakfast, transfer to Arusha Airstrip for your flight to Serengeti National Park which will depart around 7 am and arrive at 10 am for a game drive in Northern Serengeti. Serengeti is one of the incredible wildlife viewing destination famous for the annual migration of over 1.5 million wildebeests, hundred thousands of zebras and gazelles on their annual search for water and green pastures. Witness an actual survival of the fittest as these animals plunge through crocodile-infested waters, this happens from July – October.

Day 3 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)

After breakfast, we depart for Serengeti North for a game drive following the Great Migration. River Crossings at Kogatende starts in August as the mega herds settles into the area. Between August – October, game viewing is at its best with river crossings pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and subsequent fresh grasses.

You can enjoy an optional Hot Air Balloon.

Day 4 – Serengeti North (Kogatende)

After breakfast, we will proceed for a full day game drive viewing the Great Migration at Mara Area. Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high in the Wagakuria area. The key feature is the Mara River and there is a great chance to see the herds cross the Mara River to the north on one day and back south a few days later.

Please note that it can be very difficult to witness crossing and is sometimes a matter of luck. A herd can be seen next to river and only decide to cross a couple of days later. This area is a stunning region with Kopjes, woodland, riverine vegetation and open plains, similar to Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya.

Day 5 -7 – Serengeti National Park (Central Seronera)

After breakfast at the camp, we drive to Central Serengeti following the Great Migration. Serengeti also offers an amazing game viewing in Africa, some animals to lookout for include herds of elephants, giraffes, thousands of elands, topis, Kongoni, impalas and Grant’s gazelles among others.

Day 8 – Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After breakfast, we will have an early morning game drive to Ngorongoro inside the Crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as it focal point.

Descend into Ngorongoro Crater for a game drive, some of the animals to lookout for include large herds of elephants, buffaloes, gazelles, wildebeests, zebras, antelopes, giraffes among others. You will also visit Lake Magadi where you will see large flocks of elephants.

Day 9 – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast proceed to Tarangire National Park for a full day game drive, this beautiful park is famous for hosting large herds of elephants and the iconic Baobab Trees. During the dry season the park hosts a mini wildlife migration in which hundreds of elephants migration from the surrounding the area to Tarangire River which is the remaining main source of water in the area.

Day 10 – Back to Arusha

After breakfast, we head back to Arusha and pass by the Curio Market for shopping them transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your onward flight.
