Detailed Itinerary of 4 Days Gorillas and Lake Bunyonyi from Kigali City

Day 1: Kigali City to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will be picked from Kigali City, either at the Hotel after breakfast or at Kigali International airport by our safari guide and transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable national park with border crossing at Cyanika Border. Along the drive of approximately 5-6 hours, you will enjoy spectacular views of the Virunga massifs. Arrive in the park in evening, check into your lodge for dinner and overnight as you prepare for the next day’s mountain gorilla trekking experience.

Day 2: Gorilla tracking and cultural encounters in Bwindi

After breakfast, you will leave the lodge with packed lunch and report to the park’s headquarters for briefing at 07:30 am. In the briefing you will be taken through the rules and regulations to follow for gorilla trekking, in the same area you will be guided by an experienced and knowledgeable park ranger who will take you to the gorillas.

 The trek takes approximately 2 to 8 hours and after find the gorillas, you will be mesmerized by their huge size, observe their behavior, take pictures and after one hour elapses, you will head back to the starting point/ park headquarters where you will be rewarded by gorilla trekking certificate. In the evening, you will head to the local community for an interaction with the Batwa – the indigenous group of people. Have dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Bwindi to Lake Bunyonyi

After breakfast, you will start off your journey to Lake Bunyonyi – the second deepest lake in Africa found in Kabale, this lake a great place to swim as it has bilharzia free waters and great for spotting birders.

You will be welcomed by the sweet melodies of the birds which are the reason to why the Lake is called Lake Bunyonyi a local word meaning Small birds.

You will go for a canoe trip on the lake where by you will be able to spot several birds, explore the 29 islands found in the lake and take as many pictures as you can. After the canoe trip you will head to the lodge for lunch and in the evening you will go for a community/nature walk through the Batwa and Abaheesi Communities.

Day 4: Return to Kampala
