This 5 Days Uganda Primates Safari – Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking is designed for travelers interested in watching primates in their natural habitat, this Uganda safari package takes you on a tour to Bwindi impenetrable national park for gorilla trekking and Kibale Forest National Park for chimpanzee trekking.

Mountain gorillas and Chimpanzees are the most sought for primates in Uganda and you will have an opportunity to watch them in their natural habitat. You will also have a chance to spot other primates including olive baboons, vervet monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys and red tailed monkeys.

 Kibale Forest national park crowned the Primate Capital of the world is a home to a huge population of chimpanzees recorded to be over 15000 chimps and 4 groups that are habituated. Kibale Forest offers the best spot to see wild chimpanzees in the world and chances of seeing the chimpanzees in the forest are very high.

Bwindi impenetrable national park a UNESCO World Heritage Site is the best gorilla trekking destination in the world, Bwindi forest is a habitat to the largest population of mountain gorillas in the world with habituated gorilla families and on this safari you will track only one.

Detailed itinerary of 5 Days Uganda Primates Safari – Gorilla and Chimpanzee Trekking

Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National Park

On arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our guide/driver or from your hotel after breakfast and head to Kibale National Park. The journey takes about 4-5 hour through the amazing country side, along the way you will have a stop at Fort Portal City for lunch and a short city tour.

Fort Portal is an extremely beautiful town and one of the best tourist centers with great weather and green landscape, you will visit the Palace of King Oyo where you will learn about the Kingdom of Toro, their young ruler and cultural practices.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and visiting the Bigodi Swamp for a walk

Wake up early, have a cup of coffee and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about chimpanzee trekking, the park warden/guide will share the important information about chimpanzee trekking and how to conduct yourself in the presence of chimpanzees.

Head into the forests of Kibale in search for chimpanzees and upon finding the chimpanzees you will watch them play on tree branches, chimpanzees are very vocal creatures with groups that are very dramatic, the dominant chimp is always vigilant against stubborn member of the group while a silver only needs to show charisma to win the respect of his family.

Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale National park usually takes between 3-5 hours with one hour of being in their presence and taking pictures. You will return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will head to Bigodi swamp for a walk on which you will spot primates such as olive baboons, black and white colobus monkeys and many birds. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi National park – Nature Walk  

Have breakfast, exit the park and embark on a journey to Bwindi impenetrable national park   arriving around mid-day, have lunch after checking into your lodge. In the afternoon you will go for a nature walk in Bwindi forest. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking – Batwa Pygmies visit

You will wake up early for breakfast and head to the park’s headquarters for briefing about the dos and don’ts and how to conduct yourself while in presence of the gorillas. In groups of 8 people, you will head into the forests of Bwindi looking for a gorilla family assigned to you.

The trekking takes approximately 4-6 hours or me depending on the gorilla family you are trekking and where they stayed the previous night. You will spend on hour watching the gorillas go on with their daily life, take pictures as long as your flashlight is off. Return to the park’s headquarters to pick your certificates, then head to your lodge. You will then head to the Batwa community for a cultural experience with the Batwa people, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala for departure

After breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and embark on a drive back to Kampala, along the way you will have in Mbarara at Igongo Cultural Center, the Equator crossing in Kayabwe and when you arrive in Kampala, you will be dropped off at the airport for your departure flight back home.
